Dear Masters, family and friends. My name is Joshua Sze.
I began my Taekwondo journey in late 2019 after transitioning from Karate. I started at Yellow Belt Level. I remember my trial sessions at Lalor, the masters were all so friendly and helpful and all the kids looked like they were having fun.
But as I was about to leave the junior session, I noticed the older kids starting their training and they looked so strong and determined. They can kick so high! I wondered when I will be able to get to that level.
And here I am, about to grade for my Black Belt. I am nervous but excited and proud to have made it so far.
In 2020, we all had to train remotely due to the Covid-19 lockdowns. That was hard as I kept bumping into everything in my small living room. It was also hard to know whether my form was correct or incorrect since there was no one to guide me face to face. I’m glad those days are over!
In March 2022, I participated in the WeiWu Championships held at Mitcham in the Individual Poomsae and Sparring events. I had a blast. Luckily it was that weekend because I broke my arm the following weekend.
Taekwondo has taught me to be focused, determined and quick with my reflexes which is important for self-defense.
One of my favourite parts of Taekwondo is breaking boards. I would like to thank my Masters for all their teachings and guidance thus far.
