Over the past 1.5 years, my journey in Taekwondo has been an enriching experience of growth, dedication, and new opportunities. After attaining the first Dan, I set my sights on earning the second Dan, a step that symbolized my continued commitment to mastering the art and spirit of Taekwondo. This phase has been marked by rigorous training, personal development, and a deeper exploration of Taekwondo beyond being a practitioner.
One of the key milestones during this time was pursuing my poomsae referee accreditation. Poomsae, with its emphasis on precision, technique, and rhythm, challenged me to refine my understanding of form and execution. The process of becoming a referee was transformative. It required not only technical knowledge but also an appreciation for the discipline’s intricate details. With accreditation achieved, I began officiating at competitions, an experience that opened my eyes to the broader Taekwondo community and the importance of fair play.
Buoyed by this experience, I embarked on the path to kyorugi referee accreditation. Sparring (kyorugi) brings a dynamic and fast-paced aspect of Taekwondo, requiring quick decision-making and an acute awareness of safety and rules. As I progressed through the accreditation process, I gained invaluable insights into judging bouts and ensuring the integrity of competition. This role deepened my respect for the athletes and the strategies they employ.
Attending competitions as a referee has been an inspiring experience. It allowed me to contribute to the sport while witnessing a range of skill levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners. I continued to sharpen my techniques, practice new forms, and improve under the guidance of the masters.
This journey from first Dan to second Dan has been much more than earning a rank; it has been a holistic development of my skills, understanding, and perspective in Taekwondo. As I approach my second Dan examination, I feel a profound sense of accomplishment and gratitude for the opportunities to grow and contribute to the Taekwondo community.
Thank you to the Masters and fellow practitioners making this journey memorable and possible.
