My journey in Taekwondo began because of my brother, and I felt inspired to follow in his footsteps. Before I started Taekwondo, I did ballet, but I chose Taekwondo over ballet, and I believe that decision has been one of the best choices I’ve made (hopefully).
Taekwondo has brought me both joy and challenges. I’ve faced moments of pain—particularly in my knees, ankles, and arm. Since I tend to get injured easily, that's how I got the nickname "Accidentlee." Although I considered quitting Taekwondo because of those injuries, I didn’t stop. With the encouragement of my masters and friends, I kept going, focusing on improving my technique, even though I can’t perform every move perfectly. These injuries, though difficult, became opportunities for me to grow stronger mentally.
Taekwondo is more than just a sport to me; it’s a way of life. It has taught me discipline, patience, and the importance of hard work. There were moments when I was frustrated—unable to perfect a particular move or struggling with a challenging pattern. But every time I fell, I got back up because I know that improvement comes from persistence. This mentality has helped me beyond Taekwondo, especially in learning English over the past seven years. Just like mastering a kick, becoming comfortable in a new language requires practice, patience, and a willingness to make mistakes.
One of the most rewarding experiences in my Taekwondo journey has been teaching others. There’s a special joy in helping someone else succeed, guiding them through the same challenges I once faced. Yet, teaching isn’t always easy, especially when working with children who have difficulties concentrating or following instructions. It can be exhausting, requiring a lot of patience and understanding. But seeing their progress, no matter how small, makes the effort worthwhile.
I am deeply grateful to my Taekwondo masters—Master Brian, Master Joyce, Master Benecia, and Master Bryanna—who have been incredibly helpful and supportive. They have guided me through my Taekwondo journey and offered encouragement when I faced challenges. I am thankful for everything they have taught me. So far, I am proud of how far I’ve come, and I look forward to the challenges that lie ahead in my Taekwondo journey.
