Dear Masters, boys and girls I am going to be grading for my Black Belt. This essay is about my journey in Taekwondo.
I started taekwondo three years ago and stopped for one year because of a health issue. I have now recovered.
I have done some competitions like WeiWu Club championships, State championships and National championships. When I got to the State championships in Victoria I was very excited to compete there. I put in a lot of effort but I lost. However, I still qualified for the Nationals in Queensland which was a very good experience for me. It taught me that there are a lot of taekwondo students that are more skilled and have trained harder than me. I need to work harder and improve myself.
Unfortunately in 2020 Victoria had a lockdown and we couldn’t attend any championships or classes. But like my classmates we continued to train in our own homes. I’m thankful I could see them online including my Masters as they kept me motivated and fit.
My favourite thing in taekwondo is sparring because I get to do a lot of kicks and fight. When I first started I could not kick that high. Now I can kick all the way to my head. I also did not know how to block and strike properly. Now I know how to do all those things. The hardest kick for me to do in taekwondo is running double roundhouse kick but I think I’ve mastered it now.
Over the years I have definitely learnt a lot like self defence, strikes, blocks, kicks and terminology. I show appreciation to my mum, dad and younger brother for helping me in taekwondo and supporting me. A big thank you to all my Masters for teaching me. Without them I would not have been able to do what I can do now.
Taekwondo has made me stronger and fitter but I can always continue to improve in everything.
