Good evening, Master Joyce, Master Brian, Master Benecia and Master Bryanna.
My taekwondo journey started 3 1/2 years ago, my parents met Master Joyce while I was attending my religious classes at St John's. Master Joyce invited me to attend a trial class which I did. I was quite shy and reserved at my first class, but Master Joyce was very encouraging and provided me with excellent training. After the class, I decided that I would continue taekwondo and gave a heads up to my parents. I can tell that I have truly come a long way as now I am here grading to get my black belt. Taekwondo has definitely changed my life for the better, in terms of self confidence, determination, resilience, and discipline. At the same time, I have experienced pain, bruises and used to have times where I would just cry.
When I first started Taekwondo, I thought it would just be something fun and interesting to do but when I got my first blow in sparring that's when I knew it was about to get a lot harder as I progressed. True enough I was quite right, I had to deal with pain and bruises and at the same time I also learnt to deal with it. My first blow I got a black eye and I still managed to perform at a school event with extra makeup. I have learnt to manage pain and now I am able to break boards and kick a lot harder.
Although I do not participate in competitions I always try my best and work hard. I have never worked so hard to try and achieve something back then. I owe this as well as my progress to my masters who have never given up on me especially the times where I used to test their patience. Thank you to Master Brian for pushing me to get my techniques right, to Master Bryanna for making classes entertaining, to Master Benecia for boosting my confidence when I wanted to quit, and to Master Joyce for motivating me to achieve my goals.
Thanks to my parents for driving me to get to class and pushing me to achieve better results. Taekwondo has had a massive impact on my life, making me better in everything I do. I'm looking forward to continuing my journey with Taekwondo.
